Block Your Own Hits

It is possible to block your own hits from being counted on your Amazing Counters web counter. This is useful if you want to know how much traffic your site receives, not including your own visits.

If your site doesn't yet have many visitors, or you visit your site very often, your own hits can be a large part of your site traffic. This will in turn cause you to be a major contribution to the hit count reported by AmazingCounters.com (especially if you are counting All Hits rather than Unique Hits Only), and you will not have an accurate idea of how many outside visitors your site is actually getting.

To fix this, we allow you to block your own hits from being counted.

Block Your Own Hits
To block hits from your computer, you need to set a cookie on your computer that will instruct the counter not to increment on your hits. Setting this cookie is as easy as clicking on a link we provide, but you first have to make sure your web browser is set to allow cookies from our site.

On Internet Explorer, you have two options to allow our cookies. To do either you much first go to the Privacy settings. To do this, first go to the "Tools" pull down menu on an Internet Explorer window and select "Internet Options". In the window that pops up, select the "Privacy" tab from the top.

One option is to set the slider control all the way down to "Accept All Cookies", and then click the "OK" button at the bottom. The problem with this option is that you will accept cookies from all sites, not just Amazing Counters.

The better option is to just allow cookies for our site. To do this, click on the "Edit..." button near the bottom of the "Privacy" page. Enter amazingcounters.com as the "Address of Web Site", and click the "Allow" button. Then click the "OK" button at the bottom and you will go back to the "Privacy" page. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of that page, and you are set.

Once you have cookies allowed for our site (or all sites), Click this Link to Set the Cookie to block your hits from being counted.

Allow Your Own Hits
By default, your own hits will be counted. If you set the cookie to block your own hits and decided you now want your own hits counted, Click this Link to Clear the Cookie. After you click the link to clear the blocking cookie, your hits will again be counted.

Potential Problems
If you just followed the instructions and your hits are still being counted, try restarting your computer.

If you set the cookie and your hits are still being counted and restarting your computer didn't help, your web browser was probably not set to accept all cookies from amazingcounters.com before you attempted to set the cookie. To fix this, follow the instructions on top of this page again. Carefully adjust your browser settings to allow cookies from our site and then click the link to set the blocking cookie on your web browser.

Multiple Browsers or Computers
If you have multiple web browsers you use (i.e. Internet Explorer, Netscape and FireFox), you will need to set the cookie in each browser, to block your own hits. Since browsers store cookies independently, setting this in one browser will not affect the others, and you will need to set the cookie in all browsers you use in order to block all of your hits from being counted.

Likewise, if you have multiple computers you use, you will have to follow these steps on each system, if you wish to block all of your hits from being counted.
